| The
Fabric Museum
is a new phenomenon -- a museum that exists solely on-line.
“At first I wanted to create a bricks and mortar museum,” founder Michele Palmer said. “It would be on Philadelphia's Fabric Row, where my father had a retail and wholesale fabric business.” She still hasn't given up that dream, but the realities of establishing and funding the project made her look at other possibilities. “I realized that a cyber-museum has many advantages. It's not only cheaper to operate, it has unlimited space to run many exhibits at once. It also reaches a world-wide audience, and will allow visitors to interact with each other.” The latter prospect is one of the most exciting for her. “We hope to become a resource and network for artists, collectors, curators, designers, retailers -- everyone involved in the world of fabrics. We want to create a community of fabric enthusiasts around the world!” |
